Welcome to Harrison!
The city of Harrison is the county seat of Clare County. Year-round recreational activities are available right outside your door. The Harrison area offers great antiquing and flea market finds. Distinctive shops can be found throughout the town. Make a trip to Harrison on Memorial Day weekend for the Harrison Car & Bike Show. Harrison has a slogan of “Twenty Lakes in Twenty Minutes” and as it suggests, water activities can play a big part in your pleasure here. Whether you enjoy boating and waterskiing, or a more relaxed canoe, rowboat or pontoon ride, Harrison’s lakes and rivers will provide clean, clear water. Some of the best fishing anywhere can be found in these waters. At the center of Harrison is Budd Lake, a 175-acre all-sports lake, which is stocked for great fishing including some of the biggest muskie you’ll find anywhere.
Wilson State Park, on the shores of Budd Lake, is a favorite with campers throughout the state. Harrison offers many spectacular celebrations! No summer would be complete without a visit to a good old-fashioned County Fair. The Clare County Fair has taken place in Harrison every summer since 1883, with many crowd-pleasing events, including harness racing, a great Midway and country-style entertainment.
Visit the Harrison Farmers Market Saturday mornings to pick up fresh produce and wonderful arts and crafts. Later in the summer, the fun celebrations continue with the Old 27 Motor Tour Stop, Street Faire and Car & Bike Show.
When visiting in winter, bring your golf clubs and participate in the uproarious Frostbite Winter Festival on frozen Budd Lake in Harrison. Winter also provides the opportunity to take advantage of great downhill skiing and tubing.
Golfing is another great reason to enjoy the area. Play the wide variety of courses in Clare County. From tree-lined fairways carved out of a hardwood forest to courses with rolling Northern Michigan terrain, you’ll find our courses challenging whatever your handicap. See page 11 for more information on these courses.
